COCO PALM

A brand new concept of cafe is now arriving in Surabaya! Adding more options for you who loves to hang out, Coco Palm brought you the atmosphere of a beach, where you are actually in a the middle of a town. Complete with the sea sands, the palm trees, the colorful bean bags, and the sway songs, this place is really suitable for you who needs a little refreshment from your hectic life.

Coco Palm is located in the very west of Surabaya, which is in Citraland. The place is not really big, can't even accommodate a hundred people inside. But the place is surely enjoyable to chill at, especially on the evening, when the sun is not very mean to the skin. 

If you don't want to be under the sun, don't worry, Coco Palm also has sections where they have a roof. In a small tent or inside the wood house like the pictures below, you can pick wherever you want.. :)

Oh, they also have a bar! With a TV! lol.. They still can't serve alcohol (liquor) yet, but Mr. Al said you can bring your own and he won't charge a penny for it (in return, you buy the mixer from them). He also said that Coco Palm will bring the Cocktail Culture in Surabaya and they already have the special cocktail for you guys, just wait for it! :)

Seafood Nachos Rp. 40.000,- 4.5/5

Jerk Chicken Breast Rp. 75.000,- 2.5/5

It was a breast chicken, with an orange sauce, it tasted quite spicy, and they gave me potato wedges for the side dish. Price a little bit expensive, portion wasn't too big, taste was okay until I bit my last bite, it felt really weird, I didn't know what I just bitten, it wasn't a breast meat, a bit yucky.. Ah.. forget it.. #ignoreme

Vanilla Berry Crush Rp. 45.000,- 4/5

Really refreshing! But, you know.. The glass was really short.. And it has some sliced strawberries and lemons and also ice.. Probably it only contains a very small amount of water. I think I finished the drink before everything else. And it was more expensive than the big nachos. lol

Overall I really love the ambiance of the place, but the bad thing was due to the rainy season, there were too many flies, and when it rains, you couldn't enjoy sitting on the bean bag as it's in the outdoor area. At night, there were also mosquitos around. Even though they prepared the candles and the UV lamps to prevent us from getting attacked by those little animals, but they will still be there to bother. So my suggestion will be : bring your own mosquito lotion/spray, just in case. :) For the flies, I still have no idea how to shove them off.

Their menu has no picture on it, so the foods and the drinks will be a mystery for all of you. But you can try search for the pictures of the foods and drinks on their Instagram @cocopalmsurabaya. Price wise, honestly it's quite pricey to me, and I still didn't find anything special that I could eat there. Maybe you could try different dish from mine and tell me what you think? ^_^

Scrumptious Pastry & Bakery

It is placed in the center of the town, near Carpentier Kitchen, and it is not a cafe.
They only sell sweet treats such as cakes, cookies and cupcakes. So if you need to fulfill your sweet tooth, you can try this one. ^^

It was in the late afternoon when I went there, and I didn't expect the place would be so tiny! Like, it is really small lol.. They only have one long squared table with only eight small chairs.

But even though this place is not so spacious, I love how they decorate the place. It was so pretty, and filled with lovely properties. I couldn't help but taking pictures here and there because there were so many cute objects that I could captured.

What did we ordered?

 Before we got there, we were thinking about eating a lot of cakes, but since we unexpectedly stopped by at the Trunojoyo's Meatball and ate a lot there, our stomachs were quite full already.

We also felt that for such small cakes, they were quite expensive. We ate meatball for two portions plus the drinks, it was still cheaper than these two cakes, LOL..

So we ended up ordering one piece of Rhum Puff (15k) and one piece of Red Velvet Cupcakes (25k)

Rhum Puff tasted great, and I do really like puffs, eclairs, or anything with chocolate icing on top, and something stuffed inside.

While the Red Velvet Cupcakes wasn't that great. I didn't taste the red velvet at all, it was just a sweet cake with sugar creme above it

My long lost friend suddenly texted me and asked me to have a tea time with her that afternoon.

It didn't take me too long to say yes, because it's been awhile since we hung out together, and I also haven't visited the place that we were going to, so it was a win win for both of us, lol.

It was quite hard for us to find the place as the sign is not too visible for people to notice.

But we finally made it, and honestly, this place is cute!

Basically, they sell cakes and pastry, but they also have brunch menu if cakes are not enough for you

 I love all the drawings on every corners of their wall, it's totally cute

It was a wonderful evening that we could spend our quality time here.

After taking tons of pictures of everything, finally we could sit still and started having a real conversation, about what we've been missing out from each other these past months.

It's so funny how time really flies. I felt like I just knew her awhile ago, we were inseparable back then, and everything that we've been through together were all priceless.

We were talking nonsense and not realizing that we've been sitting there for hours, it's time to go.

Thoughts & Suggestions

• The place is quite hard to find but if you are following my direction below, you will get there safe and sound
• The parking lot is also really small, actually they don't really have it, just one spot inside the house and the rest will park wherever it could park
• The place is really cozy and the atmosphere is more to young people around high school or college, and of course, girls.
• I didn't really like the Bamboo cake because there were nuts inside it, but my friend really love her Blooming Love. The Triple Decker was too sweet we both couldn't even finished it and it also quite hard to dig down. And the Gryphon Tea was okay.. :)
• To be compared with Scrumptious Pastry, TooTooMoo is slightly cheaper and have more choices of cakes. Though I didn't know they also sell eclairs.. I'd prefer eclairs anytime.. :(
• The owner was the one who served us and I think she needs to be more friendly. :)

NEW OPENING OF TONY ROMA'S SURABAYA (REVIEW)

Good news everyone, Tony Roma's is now in Surabaya! 

A little bit about Tony Roma's, so this establishment has been famous for its Ribs for more than 30 years and they already have a lot of outlets all over the world. While in Indonesia, Tony Roma's has several restaurants opened, but all of them are in Jakarta. So it's pretty exciting to see one of the chain has finally arrived in Surabaya.

Tony Roma's is placed in the west side of Surabaya, on the row of Kupang Indah Street, where you can find some of the name of Surabaya's top and big restaurants fall in line there, like Bon Cafe, Sederhana, Bu Rudy, XO Suki, Jade Imperial, and now joining the big squad, Tony Roma's. 

  

If we're talking about the place, Tony Roma's provides a very big space. In their main dining hall, probably around 80 people can fit in. They also have 20 more seats at the back side, near to the wall glass. Don't forget their two VIP rooms that can accommodate 32 people in the bigger room, and 12 people in the smaller one. Last but not least, they also have an outdoor area for around 50 people too. So in total, almost 200 people can dine in at the same time in Tony Roma's!

  

Actually, there were a quite misunderstanding while I went there with all of my foodies friends. We were invited to the opening, but the person who invited us unfortunately didn't manage to confirm to the waiters that we were going to come that afternoon. So some of us (including me) has to experience some unpleasant incident with the staffs there. It was kind of emotional because I felt that we were not welcomed and not appreciated at all, but I decided to put that anger aside and just do what I need to do there. Only for you guys.

This is the choice if you can't decide which great ribs to try. They'll serve Original Baby Backs, Carolina Honeys, Tony Roma's Red Hots & Blue Ridge Smokies. Plus two side dishes : Shaved Corn Cob and Mashed Potato.

Two cents about the foods, they are not kidding when they said they have been famous for the ribs for more than 30 years, because yes it was pleasing! The rest were on my fine standard. :) Price wise, it's considered expensive since if you want to taste the best of Tony Roma's you have to at least spend 300k-500k/person. Service needs to be improved, manners, friendliness and also the product knowledge. Having a valet service is great, but when I was about to take out some stuff from my car, the valet service guy gave me the wrong car key, that's pretty scary..

Last but not least, congratulations for the opening, Tony Roma's. I hope you all the best for the business ahead.
